Letter to AB Strawn parents regarding bat on campus

April 19, 2017

Dear AB Strawn Parents and Guardians,

Today, a child noticed a bat outside of the school. The child alerted staff who immediately brought the children inside, and the playground remained closed the remainder of the day.  Then, staff notified Integrated Pest Management (IPM) staff and district administration.

IPM quickly caught the bat and inspected the building. No additional bats were found.

No children or staff came in contact with the bat, and everyone remained safe during the incident.

Our spring weather signals the time when bats migrate back to the area from their winter down south. Please tell your children if they see a bat, it is important for them to stay away from the bat and to tell a teacher or adult right away. Please explain that touching a bat, especially if it is on the ground, is not safe.

Thank you for your help. If you have any questions, please contact me at 512-398-0633 or patricia.rocha@lockhart.txed.net.

Thank you,

Dr. Patricia Rocha
